Day 4 (Tuesday: January 11, 2000)

The Enfield Factory.

The Enfield factory an hour north of Madras is filled to the gills with all kinds of bikes, from the military and the diesel to the new Machismo and the European and American exports. It was a lot of fun touring the assembly line and talking with the managers. Though much of the assembly is done by hand, they are automating a bit with new conveyors and computers. The bike I'll be riding here in India is a 500 made for European export.
