Day 5 (Wednesday: January 12, 2000)
The front window display, a new model, the Machismo. I had plenty of time to contemplate this display today as I waited for paperwork and panniers. Then it was time to go and it took all the nerve I had to enter the multi-tiered Indian traffic to leave for Mamallapuram, only an hour or two away. The Enfield dealer here in Madras (Chennai) is on a very busy street. The layers are: pedestrians, bicycles, bicycle rickshaws, bicycle carts, oxen carts, wandering sacred cows, scooters, motorcycles, wandering sacred cows, dogs, cars, buses, small trucks, big trucks and more wandering cows.
