Day 9 (January 16, 2000)
Fisherwoman in Mamallapuram Back in Mamallapuram, stuck because Pongol festivities require everyone to stand around in the street and shop and visit and do anything but move over for a motorcycle traveler. This woman is collecting a basket of fish for the marketplace. The fish were put out to dry on the cement for a few hours, to bake in the sun, as is done each morning. This town is a strange juxtaposition of traditional fishing village, temple town, and hippie hangout, very comfortable for acclimating to India. BACK TO HOME |
