Fisherwoman in Mamallapuram
Back in Mamallapuram,
stuck because Pongol festivities require everyone to stand around
in the street and shop and visit and do anything but move over for
a motorcycle traveler. This woman is collecting a basket of fish
for the marketplace. The fish were put out to dry on the cement
for a few hours, to bake in the sun, as is done each morning. This
town is a strange juxtaposition of traditional fishing village,
temple town, and hippie hangout, very comfortable for acclimating
to India.
