October 3

To East Sardegna

I left early the this morning from the Mura's, saying goodbye to Mura Senior and his antiques, including a 58 Guzzi and a 59 Vespa.

The highway to the mid-east coast was a necessary evil, though it was a good road with little traffic and I made it to Oliena, a town famous for its political wall murals. Some locals directed me to the murals.

The murals were changed quite often and it looked like they weren't terribly political any more.

It didn't take long to exhaust the charms of Oliena, as it was lunchtime and everything was closed. So I headed to the beach, though it looked a bit California like from the road... the fog rolling over the mountains.

The road to Calagonone

A closed shop... just until 4:30 pm.

Calagogone was kind of sad in October, out of season as it was, and even the kayak guy didn't want to be bothered to rent me one to go to the famous Cala Luna beach, which was just a white beach with a cove and blue water... yawn. There were the requisite German's on vacation, a few Italian couples, and a father and son from an East Block country I couldn't place. No matter. I'd be going on an expedition to the great archeological site they call Tiscali the next day.
